History of the Generation

This is the first-generation MDX (YD1), produced for 2001–2006. Acura built it as a three-row luxury crossover — Honda light-truck platform with Acura finish and VTM-4 automatic all-wheel drive. A 2003 refresh added power and updated styling. 2005 is a late first-gen year: 265 horsepower, available DVD navigation with rearview camera, and the three-row layout that defined the nameplate. The second generation arrived for 2007.

The 3.5-liter SOHC VTEC V6 is rated at 265 hp at 5,800 rpm and 253 lb-ft from 3,500–5,000 rpm, paired with a 5-speed automatic. Original EPA figures for 2005 were 17 city / 23 highway. Fuel tank is 20.4 gallons. Maximum towing is 4,500 lb (boat) / 3,500 lb (trailer). Ground clearance is 8.0 inches.

Engine

The J35 3.5 V6 is the Honda/Acura V6 used across the period in the Honda Odyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline, as well as other Honda and Acura V6 models. SOHC VTEC, 265 hp in this MDX. It is the same durable family of engine that carried those trucks through high mileage with routine service.

Touring with Navigation vs Base

Touring added the equipment over Base: leather seating (black in this truck), heated front seats, upgraded audio, and Touring trim and appearance.
